LANDCOM Pays Visit to NATO Allied Maritime Command

The Deputy Commander of Allied Land Command (LANDCOM), Lieutenant General Ed Davis, CBE, visited the NATO Allied Maritime Command (MARCOM) to meet with the MARCOM Command Group to discuss coordination of joint operations between the two NATO components and exchange views on areas of common ongoing effort.

One such effort has been the road to full operational capability (FOC). Both components have spent many months heavily engaged with preparations for FOC certification, with LANDCOM having just completed the process last week during Exercise TRIDENT LANCE 2014. MARCOM’s certification Exercise TRIDENT JEWEL 2015 will take place in the spring, and lessons identified during TRIDENT LANCE will be useful to MARCOM.

Another topic of discussion regarded progress by the land and maritime components in implementing the Readiness Action Plan, including the establishment of a Very High Readiness Joint Task Force (VJTF) as set forth at the Wales Summit in September. Each component will be responsible for aspects of the VJTF and the necessity of coordinating respective efforts to ensure they blend seamlessly.

Vice Admiral Bruno Paulmier, MARCOM Deputy Commander, said:

MARCOM enjoys a close and positive working relationship with LANDCOM that will continue to grow stronger through our combined efforts.

Lieutenant General Davis’ insights into joint coordination and information sharing will mutually benefit both our components.

Lieutenant General Davis was appointed the Deputy Commander for LANDCOM in July 2014. His Royal Marines career has included command of the Special Boat Service, with operational deployment in Iraq, 3 Commando Brigade in Afghanistan as Commander Task Force Helmand, and the 63rd Commandant General Royal Marines and Commander United Kingdom Amphibious Forces.
