ITS Caio Duilio Engages in French Gabian 2014

Italian Navy’s Andrea Doria class destroyer Caio Duilio has just returned to La Spezia following a period of training at sea with the French Navy.

The vessel, under the command of  Captain Giacinto Sciandra, spent the first two weeks of December in the Gulf of Lion where it took part in the French exercise Gabian 2014.

Caio Duilio was the only foreign unit that participated in this 4th edition of the French exercise. The crew conducted intensive training accompanied by various difficulties. They involved in numerous realistic scenarios ranging from defense and maritime security to other difficult operations.

Exercise Gabian takes place four times a year and it is the French Navy’s principal operational training exercise for task group operations.

Gabian 2014 provided an opportunity for an exchange of experience between the naval units.
