On Monday 15 December, during her port visit to Djibouti, EU Naval Force warship ESPS Rayo conducted Local Maritime Capacity Building (LMCB) training in support of and in coordination with, the EU maritime capacity building mission, EU CAP Nestor.
The training began with a briefing on board ESPS Rayo for Djiboutian naval personnel. This was followed by comprehensive training in firefighting techniques, as well as the use of protective clothing used to safely fight a fire.
Those receiving the training showed great interest in both damage control techniques and equipment and at the end of the session expressed their appreciation and willingness to take part in other training opportunities to continue to develop their skills.
After three hours of hard work, ESPS Rayo invited their Djiboutian guests to join them for much-needed refreshments before finishing the day with a brief tour of the ship.
The combined training, both theoretical and practical, proved highly effective and served to enhance the mutual trust and understanding between the European Union and regional maritime forces.
