India’s INS Arihant to Start Sea Trials

India’s first indigenously built nuclear submarine INS Arihant is ready to begin its sea trials.

The 6,ooo-tonne submarine has been conducting harbour acceptance trials at Vizag until now. The sea trials, which could last up to 18 months, are expected to begin this week off the eastern coast of Vishakhapatnam.

INS Arihant will initially conduct several surface sorties before diving for underwater sorties. According to The Times of India, the submarine will also carry out test-firing of its K-15 ballistic missiles.
