New Commander aboard USS McFaul

Command of guided-missile destroyer USS McFaul (DDG 74) passed from Cmdr. Lester A. Brown Jr., to Cmdr. Michael J. Gunther during a change of command ceremony at Naval Station Norfolk, Dec. 5.

Rear Adm. Bruce Lindsey, commander, Carrier Strike Group 10, congratulated Brown and Gunther on their successes throughout their naval careers in front of a crowd that included family, friends, crew members, and military and civilian dignitaries.

Gunther has served as McFaul’s executive officer since May 2013 and will now take the helm.

He said:

Cmdr. Brown is turning over a great ship with an outstanding crew, and I thank him very much.

Brown will next report to Joint Planning Support Element Norfolk.
