USS Rodney M. Davis Nears Retirement

The US Navy’s Oliver Hazard Perry-class guided-missile frigate USS Rodney M. Davis (FFG 60) entered Pearl Harbor on December 5.

The vessel sailed on its final journey home after completing a patrol in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region. USS Rodney M. Davis is expected to retire from service in January 2015.

The frigate, named for Marine Sergeant Rodney M. Davis (1942–1967), who was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for his heroism in the Vietnam War, was laid down on 28 October 1982; launched on 11 January 1986; and commissioned on 9 May 1987.

The ship was homeported at Yokosuka, Japan for several years while assigned to Destroyer Squadron 15. As of 2005, Rodney M. Davis is homeported at NS Everett, Washington, and assigned to Destroyer Squadron 9.
