USS Dwight D. Eisenhower Promotes Sailors

Authorities

Sailors flooded into the Virginia Beach Convention Center in Virginia Beach for aircraft carrier USS Dwight D. Eisenhower’s (CVN 69) (Ike) holiday safety standdown, Dec. 5.

The semi-annual event served the dual purpose of reiterating Ike’s safety standards and frocking the ship’s newly-advanced petty officers.

Following opening remarks from Capt. Stephen T. Koehler, Ike’s commanding officer (CO), more than 2,000 Ike Sailors were briefed on a variety of topics including medical emergencies, active shooters and suicide prevention.

In a domestic violence prevention video shown at the event, Command Master Chief Shay Langejans called on Ike Sailors to treat their shipmates, friends and family members with respect.

For the standdown finale, Koehler and Langejans called 238 Ike Sailors on stage and frocked them to the next pay grade.

Dwight D. Eisenhower is currently undergoing a scheduled docking planned incremental availability period at Norfolk Naval Shipyard in Portsmouth, Virginia.
