HMAS Huon and HMAS Launceston Meet at Sea

Authorities

Coastal Mine Hunter HMAS Huon and Armidale Class Patrol Boat HMAS Launceston conducted a rendezvous in Australia’s northern waters recently to allow their bridge teams and junior watchkeeping officers to conduct a series of training manoeuvres.

Both ships have been operating in support of Operation RESOLUTE, the Australian Defence Force contribution to Australia’s whole-of-government civil maritime security effort.

Huon’s Commanding Officer Lieutenant Commander Richard Caton said it was important training to allow junior members of Huon’s bridge team to gain ship handling experience in the mine hunter and to qualify new helmsmen including embarked Army Reserve Transit Security Element members.

In keeping with tradition, the two ships transferred various items to one another.
