USCG Assists Disabled Fishing Vessel Madison Kate

A US Coast Guard Station Brant Point, Massachusetts, crew transferred the tow of the 90-foot fishing vessel Madison Kate to a contracted salvage company at about noon, Tuesday, in the Great Round Shoal Channel.

At approximately 12:30 a.m., Monday, the fishing vessel Madison Kate notified watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Southeastern New England in Woods Hole, Massachusetts, that they were disabled due to a turbine casualty. The vessel had seven people aboard.

Watchstanders at Sector Southeastern New England diverted Coast Guard Cutter Tahoma, to the Madison Kate’s position to assist with repairs. Once on scene, it was determined repairs could not be made and the Tahoma placed the Madison Kate in tow.

At about 7 a.m., Tuesday, a Station Brant Point 47-foot Motor Life Boat crew relieved the tow from the Tahoma. The crew then transferred the fishing vessel to the salvage company who will tow the vessel to New Bedford, Massachusetts.

The Madison Kate was scheduled to arrive at their homeport of New Bedford at approximately 7 p.m., Tuesday.

There were no medical concerns reported.
