Spanish Navy Frigate Welcomes Her Majesty Queen Sofía Onboard

Her Majesty Queen Sofía of Spain visited the Spanish Navy frigate named after her during a scheduled port of call in Piraeus (Greece), her hometown.

The frigate ‘Reina Sofía’ is currently integrated into SNMG-2 as part of the counter-terrorist operation ‘Active Endeavour’ in the Mediterranean Sea.

Her Majesty was welcomed on the flight deck by the ship’s commanding officer, Commander José María Ripoll Cantero and other crew members. The Queen was briefed on the activities conducted in ‘Active Endeavour’ and was later toured around the different compartments of the frigate. At the end of the visit a photo was taken in the forecastle.

The F-84 is integrated into SNMG-2 along with another Spanish Navy unit, the F-100 frigate ‘Almirante Juan de Borbón’, and four other warships from different allied nations.
