Sri Lankan Naval Academy Holds Certificate Awarding Ceremony

The Certificate Awarding Ceremony of the 15th Sub Lieutenant Technical (Executive) Course was held at the Admiral Wasantha Karannagoda Auditorium of the Naval & Maritime Academy in Trincomalee on 14th November 2014.

The ceremony was presided over by the Commandant, Naval and Maritime Academy, Commodore YN Jayarathne.

The Sub Lieutenant Technical Courses is conducted at the NMA for Executive, Patrolman and Logistics branch Officers. The 50-week long course is designed to enhance the professional and technical knowledge of junior officers to prepare them for staff and instructional appointments. The student officers who successfully complete the Executive Sub Lieutenant Technical Course at the NMA are eligible to graduate with the Bachelor of Naval Studies (BNS) degree conferred by the University of Kelaniya. Thirty-six officers have so for successfully followed this foundation course which is offered for young officers after receiving their commission.

Sub Lieutenant BWP Balasuriya secured the award for the First in Order of Merit in the 15th sub-tec course, obtaining an average of 75.5% marks. The Training Captain, Captain PS Mahavithana, Directing Staff, student officers, senior and junior sailors of the NMA were also present at the certificate awarding ceremony.
