Australia, Papua New Guinea Work on Maritime Surveillance

Australia and Papua New Guinea are strengthening cooperation in the areas of maritime surveillance and policing, with Exercise PARADISE 2014, officially opened at a ceremony on 4 November.

Armidale Class Patrol Boat HMAS Broome is in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea for the exercise and is working alongside Papua New Guinea Defence Force Maritime Element (PNGDF(ME)) Pacific Class Patrol Boats HMPNG Ships Seeadler and Rabaul and Landing Craft Heavy HMPNGS Salamaua.

While in Port Moresby, Broome held an official reception. Guests included the Australian High Commissioner, Ms Deborah Stokes, Head of Australian Defence Staff, Colonel Dick Parker and Papua New Guinea Defence Force (PNGDF) Chief of Staff Colnel Mark Goina, MBE, who were treated to a Ceremonial Sunset, led by Guard Commander, Lieutenant Evan Healy.
