HMNB Clyde Changes Command

Commodore Mark Adams ADC has taken over as Naval Base Commander at HMNB Clyde from Commodore Keith Beckett ADC, CBE.

The supersession took place on Tuesday, October 21 when Cdre Adams formally became head of establishment at Faslane and Coulport.

Cdre Beckett had only been in post for 13 months at Clyde when he was promoted Rear Admiral and appointed as Chief of the Strategic Systems Executive, based at Abbey Wood near Bristol.

A mechanical engineering graduate, Cdre Adams is no stranger to the Clyde, having joined HMS Spartan back in the late 1980s as Assistant Marine Engineer Officer.

He returned to Faslane in late 1996 in HMS Splendid as Deputy Marine Engineer Officer, the first of three assignments to that submarine.

Promoted to Commander in 2002, he joined the In-Service Submarine Integrated Project Team before his next role took him to Whitehall where, as part of the Directorate of Equipment Capability, he was responsible for nuclear propulsion and submarine marine engineering requirements.

In early 2009 he returned to Abbey Wood as Technical Manager for the Next Generation Nuclear Propulsion Plant (NGNPP) project, part of the Nuclear Propulsion Team.

Promoted to Captain in January 2010, Cdre Adams assumed the role of Captain Base Safety in HMNB Devonport for 18 months, prior to returning to the Nuclear Propulsion Team as the Technical Director where, until May 2014, he was responsible for technical approval of the in-service submarine reactor plant.

From May 2014 until his promotion to Commodore in October, he was Submarine Programme Director in the In-Service Submarines Project Team.
