Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy (MCPON) Mike Stevens visited Sailors assigned to Naval Station Mayport, Nov. 3, 2014.

Stevens started his visit to Navy Region Southeast with an all-hands call with first class petty officer and below Sailors on the flight deck of the guided-missile frigate USS Simpson (FFG 56).

During the all-hands call, a petty officer asked MCPON a question about the repeal of the “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell” policy.

Stevens said:

First and foremost we must always remember that we must treat one another with dignity and respect,” said Stevens. “As leaders we have the responsibility to establish and maintain the conditions that provide all of our people with the opportunity to be successful.

Another Sailor asked about changing the Sexual Assault Prevention and Response (SAPR) and Command Managed Equal Opportunity (CMEO) positions from collateral duties to billeted jobs.

MCPON said there is currently no plan to make SAPR or CMEO a billeted position.

Stevens’ next stop was to the guided-missile cruiser USS Hue City (CG 66) where he sat down with the First Class Petty Officer Association and discussed the importance of leadership development.

The final stop for MCPON’s visit was the guided-missile destroyer USS The Sullivans (DDG 68) where he met with Sailors, answered questions and toured the ship’s spaces.
