Gabonese Navy Orders Two OPVs from Kership

Kership, a jointly owned company between French firms Piriou and DCNS, recently received an order for two offshore patrol vessels from the Gabonese Navy.

One of the vessels, a modernized 54m patrol vessel of the P400 class, is expected to be delivered in mid-2015, while the other vessel, a 58m offshore patrol vessel (OPV50), should be delivered in mid-2016.

The contract also includes initial crew training, supplied by DCI / NAVFCO.

The 54-metre patrol vessel of the P400 class, which Piriou acquired from the French Navy in December 2013, will undergo comprehensive modernization including both propulsion systems, generator sets, new secondary engine room equipment, quarters of the crew and special personnel, navigation and communication electronics, weapons system and launches (RHIBs).

Capable of maintaining high speeds in rough seas, she has an extensive operating range and a large cargo capacity, including accommodation for 18 passengers. Her large stern deck is ideal for vertical replenishment and carrying cargo. Shipboard weaponry is suitable for patrol and surveillance missions.

Offshore patrol vessel OPV50 is a versatile 58-metre ship developed to undertake various missions related to State Action at Sea.
Her major innovations and features include very versatile design that facilitates reorganization to suit the mission, large bridge with 360° view, rapid deployment/retrieval ramp for 2 launches (7 m RHIBs) and a range of 5,000 nautical miles and excellent sea-keeping qualities.
