US Naval Forces Europe-Africa Commander Tours NAS Sigonella

Authorities

Adm. Mark Ferguson, commander, U.S. Naval Forces Europe-Africa, visited U.S. Naval Air Station (NAS) Sigonella, Sicily, Oct. 29.

During an all hands call with Sailors, Ferguson discussed the importance of the mission in Sigonella.

NAS Sigonella is a very important base for the Navy in the Mediterranean.

He spoke of the importance of Sigonella’s strategic location in the Mediterranean.

As you’ve seen recently in this theater, the instability in North Africa and the Middle East, Sigonella provides almost the same capability as an aircraft carrier.

Being located centrally, we can launch aircraft, personnel, and be just about anywhere when we need to be.

After speaking with Sailors about the role NAS Sigonella plays in current events, Ferguson addressed questions from Sailors and toured NAS Sigonella’s two bases. He also talked about the recent arrival of the aircraft carrier USS George H.W. Bush in theater.

U.S. Naval Forces Europe-Africa, headquartered in Naples, Italy, oversees joint and naval operations, often in concert with allied, joint, and interagency partners, in order to advance U.S. national interests and security and stability in Europe and Africa.
