Authorities

This year’s Exercise IBSAMAR, a Multinational Maritime Exercise held between South Africa, Brazil and India, is being led by South Africa.

The exercise started on Monday 20 October 2014 with the arrival of the Indian Frigate INS TEG and Brazilian Navy Ship BNS Barrosso. The exercise will end on Friday 07 November 2014.

The Indian and Brazilian ships were received with the naval traditional gun salute from the Lower North Battery in Simon’s Town. Both ships on their separate arrivals replied customary to the salute with the same number of shots.

IBSAMAR has the overall concept to conduct an advanced maritime exercise over a significant period at sea, in order to enhance the levels of interoperability in a tactical environment between the participating maritime forces.
