USCG Saves Three from Capsized Sailboat

US Coast Guard rescue crews from Station South Portland saved three people after their sailboat capsized in Portland Harbor, Maine, Sunday.

Watchstanders at the Sector Northern New England Command Center received a call from 911 dispatch at 1:52 p.m. stating that a sailboat had capsized with three people in the water near Spring Point inside Portland Harbor.

Rescue crews from Station South Portland immediately launched at 1:56 p.m. aboard their 25-foot response boat small and arrived on scene at 1:59 p.m.

The three people were picked out of the water and transferred to awaiting EMS aboard a Portland Fire Department boat.

Chris Berry, a search and rescue coordinator at Sector Northern New England, said:

From the time we got the emergency call to the time we were on scene was under eight minutes.

Our crews responded quickly and aside from being a little cold everyone is ok.
