USS Cole Docks in Constanta, Romania

The Arleigh Burke-class equipped guided missile destroyer USS Cole (DDG 67) arrived in Constanta, Romania, for a scheduled port visit, Oct. 21.

Cole’s visit to Romania reaffirms to NATO allies that the U.S. Navy shares a commitment to strengthening ties while working toward mutual goals of promoting peace and stability in the Black Sea region.

Cmdr. Dennis Farrell, commanding officer of USS Cole, said:

What a great opportunity; we have been looking forward to coming to Romania for a long time. Visits such as these are crucial to building personal relations with our partner nations and fostering cultural understandings.

Cole’s visit to Romania will give the crew the opportunity to engage with their Romanian counterparts in more than just an operational capacity. Sailors will also build understanding and strengthen bonds between U.S. and Romanian servicemembers.

Cole, homeported in Norfolk, Va., is conducting naval operations in the U.S. 6th Fleet area of operations in support of U.S. national security interests in Europe.
