Raytheon Anschütz Delivery New SYNTACS

Raytheon Anschütz, a leading German-based manufacturer of naval integrated bridge systems, announces a series of deliveries of the newly developed Synapsis Tactical Command System (SYNTACS). The first delivery was made in summer 2014, with final delivery in winter 2015.

SYNTACS is an extension of the ‘Command Bridge’ concept, integrating a versatile command and control (C2) solution with the capabilities of the IMO-certified Synapsis integrated navigation system to add enhanced situational awareness and a tactical common operating picture to the bridge system.

Under the largest contract to date of this system, Raytheon Anschütz serves as the combat system supplier, integrating a total of six Synapsis Tactical Command Systems for two different classes of patrol boats.

The SYNTACS configuration will consist of four multifunctional workstations – two for navigation and two for command and control. SYNTACS uses redundant networks and systems for both, navigation and C2 data, to ensure high system and data integrity, availability and reliability. Among others, the scope also includes the electro-optical sensor as well as software modules for weapon control, data communication and data recording.

The C2 system provides the operator with an intuitive dashboard for all information required to support qualified tactical decision making. C2 operations include sensor correlation, track integration and target classification in different categories of military standards, and exchange this common operating picture with other units via software-supported data links. In addition, the control of all connected sensors such as an electro-optical sensor, radar or effector, is implemented with full functionality enabling user control of all tactical parameters, mission planning, chart operations and weapon operation from a single application.

Thomas Lehmann, system engineer at Raytheon Anschütz, explains:

SYNTACS combines integrated navigation capabilities, command and control, and advanced surveillance capabilities into a scalable, efficient integrated bridge system solution that is engineered, manufactured and integrated by a single, experienced supplier. With its high level of integration, SYNTACS offers greater flexibility to integrate sensors and effectors of various makers as needed by the customer. SYNTACS offers greater capability enhancements in a single solution, offering our customers more than a tactical upgrade to their navigation system.

SYNTACS is Raytheon Anschütz’s answer to a market trend toward employing Corvettes, OPV’s (Offshore Patrol Vessels) and smaller vessels to detect and combat asymmetric threats and common relevant symmetric threats. The system is designed to allow these vessels to scale up from a policing or coastguard role to a more traditional navy military task when required. The standardization with off-the-shelf multifunctional workstations, common operating philosophy and modular system architecture, based on Raytheon Anschütz’s Open Architecture Software for Integrated Systems (OASIS) framework, helps to minimize non-recurring engineering, training and logistics costs while remaining flexible enough to adapt to customer needs and mission requirements.
