HMS Northumberland Takes Royal Navy to Visit Muscat, Oman

The Royal Navy visited Muscat, Oman, onboard its type 23 Frigate HMS Northumberland, which is currently operating in the Gulf region and off the Horn of Africa as part of the United Kingdom’s enduring commitment to maritime security in the region.

Taking time out from a busy deployment, the Ship’s Company used their time alongside in Oman’s capital city to demonstrate all that is best about British hospitality, hosting senior military dignitaries, as well as showing Muscat’s youngsters that life in the Royal Navy can be fun.

The highlights for many of the 200-strong crew were the visits by 1st Oman Scout Group and the British School in Muscat. Over the course of two days, some 160 children took the chance to get a feel for life onboard a modern Royal Navy warship.

The Plymouth-based warship will continue her operational tasking in the Middle East and off the east coast of Africa – dealing with a mixture of drugs smuggling and piracy – before she returns home for Christmas.
