London’s affiliated warship HMS Westminster sailed through the Thames Barrier and yesterday hosted guests to demonstrate her capability.
The Type-23 frigate will also open her gangway to the public on Saturday where people will be able to glimpse life on board a Royal UK Navy warship.
HMS Westminster’s Commanding Officer Captain Hugh Beard said: “HMS Westminster’s visit to London is an opportunity to reaffirm the very strong links that the ship has with its affiliates, many of who enjoyed a day at sea with the ship in late July.”
Civic dignitaries and other guests boarded the vessel for a capability demonstration.
On Friday, the ship will play host to some engagement tours for invited guests before members of the ship’s company take a unique opportunity to tour No 10 Downing Street.
Saturday will see HMS Westminster open up for visitors. First to arrive will be young people from Haringey and Enfield Sea Cadets who are both affiliated to the ship. The Cadets from Greenwich and Bexleyheath will also join them.
The ship will be open to members of the public from 9am until 5pm – with last entry to the ship at 4pm.
The greatest honour comes on Sunday when the Lord Mayor of Westminster will allow the ship to exercise its right to the Freedom of the City.
