HMS Iron Duke Back at Sea

Ship alongside Simons Town Naval Base

Following a two week, mid deployment maintenance check – HMS Iron Duke has returned to sea.

The Portsmouth based frigate has just spent two weeks in the South African port of Simon’s Town, just a short hop from Cape Town.

It was also a chance for the ship’s company to unwind before continuing her deployment on Atlantic Patrol Tasking (South).

In addition to the various AT activities the ship also engaged heavily with the South African Navy, hosting a number of visits for their Junior Officers as well as inviting several of their Commanding Officers onboard for a tour and lunch with Iron Duke’s Commanding Officer, Commander Tom Tredray.

While on the sports field, Iron Duke’s football team made two appearances losing one match and drawing a second.
