NAACP Recognizes Military Leadership

Yeoman 1st Class Latoya Calvin, an Akron, Ohio, native, received the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune Inspirational Leadership Award on Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam Sept. 13.

 

The Honolulu-Hawaii chapter of NAACP held a Military Leader Awards luncheon at the Hickam Officer’s Club. Calvin was among 14 recipients to receive an award honoring their commitment, leadership and community service.

Calvin, along with two other Sailors, Chief Warrant Officer Vanderla L. Akaka and Petty Officer 1st Class Brenda L. Flores from Afloat Training Group Middle Pacific, were also recognized at the annual ceremony hosted by the NAACP Honolulu chapter that covers Hawaii, Korea, Guam, and Japan.
