Sri Lanka Navy Arrests 55 Indian Fishermen

Sri Lanka Navy arrested 55 Indian fishermen along with 8 Indian fishing trawlers poaching well within Sri Lankan waters on 10th and 11th September 2014.

 

Twenty-five Indian fishermen along with 2 Indian fishing trawlers engaged in poaching in the seas North of PPD were arrested by naval craft attached to the Northern Naval Command on routine patrol. 30 Indian fishermen and 6 Indian fishing trawlers engaged in poaching in the seas off Thalai-mannar were arrested by naval craft attached to the North Central Naval Command on routine patrol.

The arrested fishermen were handed over to the officials of the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources in Kankasanthurai and Thalai-mannar for further action.
