CPO Selectees Take Part in 1st Annual Heritage Cup

Chief petty officers (CPOs) and CPO selectees from various commands throughout Navy Region Southwest (NRSW) participated in the 1st Annual Heritage Cup as part of CPO 365 Phase II on Naval Air Station North Island Aug. 27.

More than 80 CPOs and 70 CPO selectees participated in the event.

“It’s an event to get all the genuine chiefs and chief selectees together for team building and camaraderie,” said Senior Chief Aviation Machinist’s Mate Stephen Guerra, an event coordinator. “It’s also a pretty decent fundraiser for the season.”

Team Building is an major theme of the CPO 365 training.

“It’s important to bring the selectees together and have them work with each other to figure out new tasks on the spot,” said Chief Aviation Structural Mechanic Frank Bauer, an event coordinator.

The Heritage Cup is part of CPO 365, a year-long development and training for first class petty officers that was introduced in 2010 under former Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy Rick West. It fosters team building, community service and describes the expectations and accountability that come with the donning of anchors.
