HMS Duncan Hosts Royalty in Cardiff

Prince Charles has visited the Royal UK Navy’s newest warship HMS Duncan in Cardiff as he arrived for the NATO summit reception.

As Admiral of the Fleet, Prince Charles wore his Naval uniform and was shown around the state-of-the-art Type-45 destroyer which is the sixth and final of its class.

While on board he inspected the wardroom and control room while accompanied by the Commanding Officer Commander Richard Atkinson.

Prince Charles also presented Chief Petty Officer Engineering Technician (Weapon Engineering) Wayne Peake with a long service and good conduct medal.

CPO Peake, who joined the Navy in 1984, at the age of 17, was involved in Operation Desert Storm while serving on HMS Gloucester in 1991, as well as the liberation of Kuwait.

Prince Charles was then given the chance to visit some of the other warships docked in Cardiff – including the French anti-submarine destroyer La Motte-Picquet.
