The U.S. Navy’s forward-deployed aircraft carrier USS George Washington’s (CVN 73) Coalition of Sailors Against Destructive Decisions chapter is taking strides to encourage junior Sailors to make positive decisions.

“CSADD is a program that promotes good decision-making and enables leadership growth and development,” said Aviation Ordnanceman 2nd Class Tavarus Franklin, George Washington CSADD chapter president. “It’s a program that is designed for junior Sailors to provide a positive outlook for our Sailors.”

Their vision lies in reinforcing a culture of shipmates helping shipmates. The CSADD program provides young Sailors with leadership opportunities through social and in-person networking and various events aboard the ship and in the community.

This concept is supported by monthly topics that foster discussions about the issues that cause Sailors to make destructive decisions. The method of training is left entirely to the members, which encourages them to undertake these topics and address these in an innovative way.

CSADDs goal ultimately is to reinforce the mission and culture of shipmates helping shipmates by combating destructive behavior and encouraging good decision making.

George Washington and its embarked air wing, Carrier Air Wing 5, provide a combat-ready force that protects and defends the collective maritime interest of the U.S. and its allies and partners in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region.
