NNS Chooses Its Primary Naval Architectural Software

QinetiQ’s Paramarine Ship and Submersible Design Software has been selected by Newport News Shipbuilding (NNS) as its primary naval architectural software.

QinetiQ Paramarine Software will be used for all ships designed and built at its shipyard, including use on the US Navy’s latest class of aircraft carriers and to support submarine research and development.

As the sole designer, builder and refueler of U.S. Navy aircraft carriers, and one of two providers of U.S. Navy submarines, Newport News Shipbuilding is currently building the new FORD-class aircraft carriers and VIRGINIA-class fast-attack submarines, and performing refuelling and complex overhaul on NIMITZ-class aircraft carriers.

Newport News Shipbuilding purchased a Team Paramarine License, which allows multiple users to work concurrently on one design and features an auditing feature for subsequent design approval. In addition, a number of training courses have been delivered to the naval architecture team at the shipyard’s training facility at Newport News, covering surface ship and submarine new user and early stage design.

Newport News Shipbuilding is part of Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII) which, for more than a century, has built more ships in more ship classes than any other U.S. naval shipbuilder at its Newport News Shipbuilding and Ingalls Shipbuilding divisions.
