Image of the Day USS Truxtun Transits the Mediterranean Sea

The Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Truxtun (DDG 103) transits the Mediterranean Sea.

 

Truxtun is deployed as part of the George H.W. Bush Carrier Strike Group supporting maritime security operations and theater security cooperation efforts in the U.S. 6th Fleet area of responsibility.

USS Truxtun was launched on 17 April 2007. The vessels’ commissioning ceremony was held on 25 April 2009 in Charleston, South Carolina with Commander Timothy Weber as her first commanding officer.

The vessel is named for American Naval hero, and founding father of the U.S. Navy, Commodore Thomas Truxtun (1755–1822). It is the sixth U.S. naval warship to bear his name.
