723 Squadron Visits Darwin College as Part of Exercise Kakadu

On Monday 25th of August 2014, members of the Royal Australian Navy’s 723 Squadron visited the Good Shepherd Lutheran College in Darwin as a part of Navy’s community engagement during Exercise Kakadu 2014.

Kakadu 2014 is the Royal Australian Navy’s largest maritime warfare exercise for the year, occurring in and off the coast of Darwin, from the 25th August to 12th September 2014.

Sub Lieutenant Adam Jameson, a pilot from 723 Squadron, flew the Bell 429 Helicopter and touched down on the main oval of the school as hundreds of eager students watched on.

“It’s great to see the excitement of the students on these types of visits.

“It gives us the opportunity to tell them about how we work in the Navy and about the different roles that are performed by the members of the Squadron,” Sub Lieutenant Jameson said.

Sub Lieutenant Jameson and Aviation Warfare Officer, Lieutenant Mark Esposito, travelled approximately 2000 nautical miles from HMAS Albatross, in Nowra to Darwin for the Exercise.

“It was a long flight; the distance of our journey from Albatross to Darwin was approximately the same as that from the East Coast of Australia to the West Coast.

“From Albatross we flew to Adelaide, and then north through Woomera, Alice Springs and Tennant Creek, amongst other places,” Lieutenant Mark Esposito said.

The school visit is an example of the Navy working to engage with communities across all regions of Australia.
