The amphibious assault ship USS Peleliu (LHA 5) pulled into Sasebo Naval Base, Japan, Aug. 22, for a scheduled port visit.

Peleliu has been transiting the 7th Fleet area of responsibility (AOR) after departing Naval Base Guam and participating in support of the nation’s maritime strategy, while promoting security and stability in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region.

While in port, Peleliu’s Sailors will have a chance to participate in several tours offered by the ship’s Morale, Welfare and Recreation office, including a trip to the Historical Nagasaki Peace Park.

Peleliu’s visit to Sasebo is part of the ship’s deployment to the Western Pacific that began in June 2014.

Peleliu is on its final regularly scheduled Western Pacific deployment in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of responsibility supporting security and stability in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region before decommissioning early next year.
