U.S. Sailors, attached to Coastal Riverine Squadron (CORIVRON) 2, refurbished a 50 meter ammunition range and conducted a live fire exercise with Guatemalan service members at Brigada de Infanteria de Marina (BIM) in support of Southern Partnership Station 2014 (SPS-JHSV 14), Aug. 11-12.
CORIVRON 2 service members made sure the range was suitable for live firing exercises. The range now has new targets, target points, yard line markers and lateral limits.
The service members exchanged knowledge on the Guatemalan Galil assault rifle on the subjects of weapon cleaning, safety techniques and weapon firing.
The success of the exercise relied on the crew’s ability to work together and operate in a variety of real-life scenarios.
SPS-JHSV 14 is a U.S. Navy deployment focused on subject matter expert exchanges with partner nation militaries and security forces. U.S. Naval Forces Southern Command and U.S. 4th Fleet employ maritime forces in cooperative maritime security operations in order to maintain access, enhance interoperability and build enduring partnerships that foster regional security in the U.S. Southern Command area of responsibility.
