South Korea's Destroyer to Evacuate Citizens from Libya

South Korea’s ROKS Munmu the Great (DDH-976) destroyer is on its way to Libya to evacuate South Korean nationals as the security situation in the country gets worse.

The Chungmugong Yi Sun-sin-class destroyer, which was participating in a Gulf of Aden military mission, was sent after the Government issued a call for South Koreans last week to evacuate the African country.

Yonhap News Agency quoted a  foreign ministry official as saying: “The Munmu the Great will leave Oman’s Port of Salalah in the afternoon to arrive in the sea of Libya around mid-August with a mission to evacuate South Koreans.”

It is still not known at which Libyan port the ship will dock.
