Sri Lanka Navy Arrests 38 Indian Poachers

Sri Lanka Navy arrested 38 Indian fishermen along with 9 Indian fishing trawlers poaching well within Sri Lankan waters on 21st July 2014.

 

Eighteen Indian fishermen along with 5 Indian fishing trawlers engaged in poaching in the seas North of Delft were arrested by naval craft attached to the Northern Naval Command on routine patrol. Another 20 Indian fishermen and 4 Indian fishing trawlers engaged in poaching in the seas off Thalai-mannar were arrested by naval craft attached to the North Central Naval Command on routine patrol.

The arrested fishermen were handed over to the officials of the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources in Kankasanthurai and Thalai-mannar for further action.
