HMS Westminster Drops By in Iceland

Following their participation in Exercise Deep Blue the ship’s company of HMS Westminster have had a short stopover in the land of fire and ice – Iceland.

The two day visit allowed the men and women of the Portsmouth based frigate a chance to unwind and experience the delights of the North Atlantic island nation.

Some visited the Blue Lagoon – a man made geothermal spa fed from the silica and sulphur rich waters of the nearby geothermal power plant – while others took a 300km cycle through southern Iceland.

Whilst in Reykjavik, Her Majesty’s Ambassador to Iceland, Stuart Gill made a formal visit to Westminster’s Commanding Officer, Captain Hugh Beard Royal Navy.

A reciprocal call was also made by Westminster’s Officers at the Ambassador’s residence.

Westminster was one of three Royal Navy ships that took part in Deep Blue an exercise that tested their anti submarine warfare skills.

Having spent two days in Reykjavik, HMS Westminster is now making her way back to Portsmouth for a short period, before returning to her training programme.
