FLSE SUBS Upgrade Increases Efficiencies

FLSE SUBS Upgrade Increased Efficiencies

It has been evolution rather than revolution at Australian Fleet Logistics Support Element – Submarines (FLSE SUBS) over the past year as ongoing upgrades to facilities and an update of procedures at the Fleet Base West warehouse facility significantly increased efficiencies.

As part of a restructure in July 2013 where the Joint Logistics Unit – West transitioned to Submarine Force command, the new FLSE SUBS has been able to work more closely with the submarines as they are now more cognisant of their requirements, further, due to minimising communication overheads, they can address their needs in a more timely manner; all in all a positive and productive initiative.

FLSE SUBS personnel have started to operate within a purpose-designed warehouse environment due to process and equipment improvements identified through the Submarine Capability Improvement Project and Logistic Stream Implementation Project.

On a recent visit to the facility, Commander Submarine Force, Captain Mark Potter, viewed the modifications and the newly implemented strategies which have resulted in reduced turnaround time in supplying submarines with stores.

“Due to limited storage space onboard submarines it is imperative we have a smooth, efficient and most of all effective system of logistic support. FLSE SUBS provides that support and coupled with outstanding personnel has resulted in significant and enduring change within Submarine Force,” Captain Potter said.
