Training Ship ‘Juan Sebastián de Elcano’ Docks in Oslo

After five day’s runs from Hamburg sailing through the Elbe River, the North Sea, the Strait of Skagerrak and the Oslo fjord, the training ship ‘Juan Sebastián de Elcano’ arrived at the Norwegian capital on June 28th.

This is the northernmost port of call of the training ship since she was launched in 1927.

During her stay in Oslo, the ship was berthed in the Vippetangen pier, near the Akershus stronghold close to the city center. This port of call coincided with the bicentenary of the Norwegian Constitution. The midshipmen visited the Parliament and also participated in a wreath laying ceremony in a monument to the Sailors who died at sea. This ceremony was attended by the Chief of Staff of the Norwegian Navy and the Spanish Ambassador in Oslo.

At midnight the ‘Juan Sebastián de Elcano’ set sail towards Marin where she is expected to arrive by July 13th, thus concluding her 85th Training Cruise.
