Canada to Upgrade Navy’s Twelve Frigates

The Honourable Peter MacKay, Regional Minister for Nova Scotia, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, on behalf of the Honourable Rob Nicholson, Minister of National Defence announced the awarding of an $18.5 million contract to Saab Microwave Canada Ltd.

 

The contract, for the repair and overhaul of the weapon-control radars onboard the Royal Canadian Navy’s twelve Halifax-class frigates, is part of the Halifax-class Modernization/Frigate Life Extension project. It includes three optional one-year extensions and will help support skilled jobs in the Halifax area.

The Honourable Rob Nicholson, Minister of National Defence, M.P for Niagara Falls, said: “As the Halifax-class Modernization/Frigate Life Extension project continues to unfold, it is becoming a great success story for the Canadian Armed Forces and, in particular, the Royal Canadian Navy. These upgrades to the surveillance and weapon-control radars ensure that our sailors have the safe, reliable equipment they need to meet the challenges of the 21st century and respond when and where we need them.”
