USS Constitution to Participate in July 4 Celebration

USS Constitution is scheduled to get underway in Boston Harbor in celebration of America’s Independence on Friday, July 4.

The 150 winners of Constitution’s annual Fourth of July public lottery drawing and their guests will accompany the Captain and Crew aboard the 216-year-old Constitution on her second of five scheduled underway demonstrations in 2014.

This will be Constitution’s final Independence Day underway demonstration until 2018, as she is scheduled to enter dry dock in early 2015 for planned restoration work.

USS Constitution, the world’s oldest commissioned warship afloat, actively defended sea lanes against global threats from 1797 to 1855. Now a featured destination on Boston’s Freedom Trail, Constitution and her crew of U.S. Navy Sailors offer community outreach and education about the ship’s history and the importance of naval seapower to more than 500,000 visitors each year.
