Royal Canadian Sea Cadet Corps Tour Navy Vessels

In recent months, the Royal Canadian Navy (RCN) has provided many youth with once-in-a-lifetime opportunities that have created lasting memories. Through the support of Maritime Forces Atlantic, two Royal Canadian Sea Cadet Corps (RCSCC) received exclusive training aboard Canadian warships, adding tremendous value to their training programs.

RCSCC Magnificent tours HMCS Iroquois

On April 16, 24 members of the RCSCC Magnificent from Shearwater, N.S., toured HMCS Iroquois, an event organized by Leading Seaman Mike Geehan for the benefit of his daughter and her fellow cadets.

During the tour they received hands-on experience with shipboard weaponry, firefighting equipment and the ship’s internal communications system. They concluded the day’s events by observing the ship’s sunset ceremony from the flight deck.

Members of RCSCC Fredericton sail aboard HMCS Fredericton

From May 5-9, members from RCSCC Fredericton sailed aboard their namesake ship HMCS Fredericton to gain an appreciation for life in the navy and shipboard activities.

The cadets worked with each department on the ship to learn about the various trades employed, and they took part in activities such as a C7 rifle proficiency shoot, steering at the helm and tours with the ship’s marine and combat system engineering departments.

The RCN and cadets

The cadet program strives to impart a number of key values to youth across Canada through environmental, citizenship and community activities. It also allows youth to hone critical skills such as teamwork and leadership.
