Friday 13th June saw the hand over of the Commandant General Royal Marines from Major General Ed Davis, CBE to Major General Martin Smith, MBE.
The handover ceremony took place in the Commandant Generals Courtyard at Commando Training Centre Royal Marines and was witnessed by Commanding Officers and Regimental Sergeant Majors from across the Corps.
Among the other guests present at the ceremony were the Naval Secretary Rear Admiral Jonathon Woodcock and senior representatives from the United States Marine Corps and the Royal Netherlands Marine Corps.
Maj Gen Davis will take over as Deputy Commander NATO Land Forces based at Izmir, Turkey in July.
Maj Gen Smith will take 2* operational command responsibility for Operation Atalanta in the Indian Ocean from August 2014.
