U.S. Navy Orders Electronic Warfare Systems from Northrop Grumman

Northrop Grumman Corporation has received funding to produce pre-production units of the APR-39D(V)2 radar warning receiver (RWR)/electronic warfare management system (EWMS).

 

Under terms of the joint services contract with the U.S. Army and U.S. Navy, Northrop Grumman will produce 18 APR-39D(V)2 units. Delivery is anticipated in late 2014 to begin hardware-software and platform integration testing in 2015.

The Northrop Grumman APR-39D(V)2 RWR/ EWMS is designed to maximize survivability by improving aircrew situational awareness via interactive management of all onboard sensors and countermeasures. The system provides 360-degree coverage to automatically detect and identify threat type, bearing and lethality. This affordable system features the latest technology in a small, lightweight configuration that protects a wide variety of fixed-, rotary- and tilt-wing aircraft.

“Our APR-39D(V)2 merges the baseline capability of previous systems with the Northrop Grumman digital receiver technology to provide advanced capability for today’s and tomorrow’s threat environment,” said Janine Nyre, vice president of radio frequency combat information systems at Northrop Grumman. “This lightweight system maintains interfaces with legacy systems and includes flexibility for future growth enhancements.”

More than 7,000 APR-39 systems have been installed to date on both domestic and international AH-1W/Z, UH-1N/Y, MV-22B, KC-130T, UH-60, OH-58D, CH-53, CH-46, AH-64A/D and CH-47 aircraft.
