23 Personnel Awarded Fleet Commander Commendations

A total of 23 Royal Navy, Royal Marines, Royal Fleet Auxiliary and MOD civilian personnel have been awarded Fleet Commander Commendations for their efforts over the past year.

Fleet Commander Admiral Phil Jones CB presented the awards at a special ceremony at Portsmouth Naval Base.

The Fleet Commander Commendations are given to sailors, marines and civilians working across the Service who have been nominated for their exceptional performance in their unit.

Adm Jones, who is based at HMS Excellent, Portsmouth said: “Recognising the first-class contribution that our people make to the Royal Navy is an essential part of my role as Fleet Commander and I take great pleasure in days like today.”

Operations Officer on board HMS illustrious Lieutenant Commander Chris Hughes was awarded a commendation for his ‘indispensible role’ as a Royal Navy Liaison Officer on board two US Navy carriers in the Gulf.

Leading Engineering Technician (LET) Craig Ashworth of HMS Astute was one of five teams awarded a Fleet Commander’s Commendation. He was recognised for his work as an Electrical Panel Operator where he ‘remained focussed on delivering the required outputs and ultimately ensured that HMS Astute could meet her deployment programme, complete a complex maintenance period and go to sea for training’.

A Royal Netherlands Navy Officer, Lieutenant Commander Wilco Faber, was also recognised for helping organise Cougar 13 – a major deployment to the Mediterranean and Middle East.
