Polish, Finnish Officers Visit Taranto and La Spezia Naval Bases

Senior Officers of the Polish and Finnish Armed Forces were visiting the Taranto and La Spezia Naval Bases.

General Lach Majewski, Commanding General of the Polish Armed Forces, paid a visit to the Comando Flottiglia Sommergibili, and ITS Margottini moored at Taranto harbor. The guests were also able to visit the Centro Addestramento Sommergibili and submarine Sciré – and especially its simulators.

Captain Mario Berardocco explained the operation activities carried out by the Todaro class submarines, their “expeditionary” ability, that is to provide logistics and technical support at great distances.

On board ITS Margottini, Rear Admiral Guido Rando, the delegation was welcomed by commanding officer of the First Naval Group, and Commander Pasquale Esposito, commanding officer of the unit.

At the same time, Commodore Juha Vauhkonen, Chief of Staff Navy Command of the Finnish Navy, followed by a delegation of military and civil authorities, visited the La Spezia Intermarine Shipyards and Launcher Destroyer Caio Duilio.

At the end of the visit, Commodore Juha Vauhkonen acknowledged the support given by the Italian Navy to the Finnish Navy in the creation of new minehunters, and for ITS Duilio making a stop in Helsinky during a joint exercise with Patroller Hanko last November.
