The aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71) frocked 258 Sailors to their new pay-grade during a ceremony held in the ship’s hangar bay, May 30.
Frocked Sailors receive the right to wear the uniform and assume the responsibilities of their next pay grade but do not receive pay of their new grade until actually promoted.
“I feel amazing putting on 2nd Class,” said newly frocked Interior Communication Electrician 2nd Class Rachel Rice. “I feel like my whole life has changed.”
Prioritizing good study habits into your schedule can pay off greatly. Newly frocked Personnel Specialist 2nd Class Gilberto Vaz, who scored in the 99th percentile on his exam, is a key example of how important studying is.
“[Personnel Specialist 2nd Class Hector Rodriguez] is a great mentor. He helped me a lot,” said Vaz. “I printed out the [bibliographies]. I had a good [evaluation], and, from there, it came down to studying.”
TR frocked 116 Sailors to third class petty officer, 89 to second class petty officer, and 31 to first class petty officer. Those Sailors who did not advance this cycle, or weren’t eligible to take the advancement exam, will have a chance to take it in September.
