SAS Spioenkop Takes Part in PASSEX Exercise

SAS SPIOENKOP conducted a PASSAGE EXERCISE (PASSEX) with the Turkish Maritime Task Group (TMTG-14) on Friday, 16 May 2014. The Task group arrived in Simon’s Town harbour on Thursday, 15 May, for a courtesy call to the Fleet.

 

The TMTG-14 arrived in Cape Town on Monday, 5 May 2014, as part of the 102 days circumnavigation of Africa mission titled “Over the Horizon”. The visit to South African waters was to fulfil the mission’s purpose to showcase the Turkish Navy’s capabilities, conduct multi-national training and exercises to accentuate their commitment to Maritime safety and security in the African domain.

The Task Group comprised the frigates TCG Gediz (F-495), TCG Orucreis (F-245), the corvette TCG Heybeliada (F-511). On completion of the PASSEX the TMTG-14 then continued their voyage to the East coast as the TMTG-14 is expected to return to base on 27 June 2014.
