The Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Carney (DDG 64) departed Bodrum, Turkey after completing a scheduled port visit, April 29.
The visit highlights the U.S. Navy’s commitment to promoting peace and stability in the U.S. 6th Fleet area of operations.
“Our visit to Bodrum only strengthens our partnership with Turkey, as the Sailors are able to see firsthand the rich Turkish culture and history.
While in port, the crew had the opportunity to participate in several Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) tours, including a scuba diving trip, a tour of the classical city of Ephesus and a tour to Pamukkale. The hospitality of the people of Turkey helped Sailors gain an appreciation for the rich history, thus strengthening the bonds between the U.S. and Turkey.
“Bodrum is a beautiful city, and well deserved port visit for the crew after a long time at sea,” said Crossman. “We truly enjoyed our visit and I know we will try to come back soon. The food, the sights, and the people are worth coming back for.”
Carney is on a scheduled deployment supporting maritime security operations and theater security cooperation efforts in the U.S. 6th Fleet area of operations.
U.S. 6th Fleet, headquartered in Naples, Italy, conducts a full range of maritime security operations and theater security cooperation missions in concert with coalition, joint, interagency, and other partners in order to advance security and stability in Europe and Africa.
