HII to Deliver USS America to US Navy
USS AMERICA (LHA 6)

The U.S. Navy will take delivery of its new Amphibious Assault Ship America (LHA 6) at a ceremony scheduled for today at Huntington Ingalls Industries’ Ingalls Shipbuilding division, located in Pascagoula, MS.

 

Ingalls’ shipbuilding president Brain Cuccias, America (LHA 6) prospective Commanding Officer Capt. Robert A. Hal Jr., as well as Ingalls shipbuilders and the ship’s sailors will attend the ceremony.

The ceremony will begin at noon, but the ship’s crew will march through the shipyard at 11 a.m.


USS AMERICA (LHA 6) RETURNS TO INGALLS SHIPYARD JAN. 31 FROM ACCEPTANCE TRIALS.

USS America will be the first ship of the America-class amphibious assault ships of the U.S. Navy. She will replace USS Peleliu (LHA-5) and act as the flagship of an expeditionary strike group of amphibious ready group.
