On Monday 7 April the German tanker Rhön arrived in the port of Djibouti to join the European Union Naval Force (EU NAVFOR) Somalia Operation Atalanta.

The tanker under the command of Captain Egon Rhauderwiek will provide regular replenishment support to the EU Naval Force warships and other international forces conducting counter piracy operations at the Horn of Africa.

The tanker features a displacement of 14,169 tonnes and a capacity of 11,500 m³. With installed power equal to 5,880 kW (8,000 PS), it can reach a speed of 16 knots.
